Greetings from the heart of the Midwest! We are Susan and Joe Ruch of Frankfort, Indiana, and our daughter Maddy is a freshman at Ball State University (BSU) beginning the next chapter of her life. Maddy, who is Joe's daughter from his first marriage, is attending BSU to study nursing. I graduated from Ball State in 1982 and Joe is a 1981 graduate of Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. Neither of us were members of Greek-letter organizations during our college years.
We have been married for seven years. I am a small business lender at a local bank, and Joe is a purchaser for a bolt manufacturing company. We are very involved in our children's lives. In addition to Maddy, there are three others - Kyle is 26 (Sigma Chi), Emily is 24 (Zeta Tau Alpha) and Mackenna is 13. As you can see this is not our first exposure to college fraternities and sororities. However, we feel we will learn even more about what it is all about through this experience. Joe and I love to travel, attend our kids sporting events (tennis, volleyball, basketball and track) and enjoy fires on our patio with family and friends. We are also very involved in our church. Our family loves sports and we are IU, Cardinal (St. Louis and Ball State) and Colts fans. Well, Joe is a Packer's Cheesehead, I am the Colts Fan. We look forward to this adventure.

Gone is the day when you received a roommate “pot luck”. I remember reading my roomate’s name for the first time on the door, when I walked up to my new home in the dorm.
Now for the growing up part. Maddy’s first week of classes was off to a good start when on Tuesday, she was notified by friends from home that one of their classmates had passed away unexpectedly.
